Sand molding, also known as sand casting, is a widely used process in foundries for producing metal castings. It involves creating molds made of sand into which molten metal is poured to produce the desired shape of the final casting.The sand used in molding is typically mixed with a binder such as clay and moistened to provide cohesion. The mold cavity is formed by compacting the sand mixture around a pattern, which is a replica of the desired casting shape.Once the mold is prepared, it is often divided into two halves, the cope (top) and the drag (bottom), to allow for the removal of the pattern and the pouring of molten metal.
